The service, which is open to 124 travelers, operates year-round on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
“We’ve been flying them for years out of our Phoenix hub, and this just provides more service to folks on the East Coast,” said Michelle Mohr, spokeswoman for US Airways’ Charlotte hub.
For a non-refundable, round-trip ticket to Puerto Vallarta, prices range from $243 to $366, and the flight takes about four hours. For the same ticket to Los Cabos, prices range from $203 to $344, and the flight takes about five hours.
Passengers on the inaugural Saturday flights, which were nearly full, got a complimentary breakfast.
Charlotte is US Airways’ busiest hub, 615 leaving daily as of June – an increase from about 584 in May. The airline’s two other hubs – Philadelphia and Phoenix – had respectively about 426 and 267 flights leaving daily in May.
Though US Airways does not release numbers on flights to specific locations, the airline said it has seen enough demand for the success of the new service.
The airline has added six other destinations from its Charlotte hub in the past 18 months, including the service to Rome that began May 18 and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which started in December 2009.
