(Associated Press) | | Mexico City has became the Guinness World Record holder for the largest number of simultaneously erupting Mentos geysers.
With participants of all ages in attendance, the singular event placed itself atop the records lists, with 2,433 erupting Mentos and soda geysers, beating China who held a similar experiment in June but reached only 2,175.
The experiment involves dropping Mentos candies into a 2-litre bottle of soda, which causes the liquid to shoot up to two meters into the air.
Guinness World Records adjudicator, Mike Janela was present on Saturday to confirm a new record being set.
"It was great, everyone was excited and they could tell they were here and they wanted to be a part of history and once all those fountains erupted it was just incredible to see," Janela said.
Despite the difficulties involved in synchronising a crowd of nearly 2,500 people to drop the Mentos candies simultaneously into the bottles, event organisers managed to get enough people to beat the record.
The experiment left most participants drenched in soda.
