The EC725 is the latest member of Eurocopter's Cougar family.
Mexico City - Mexico's Ministry of Defense is purchasing six additional EC725 helicopters from Eurocopter for transport and civil security missions.

Eurocopter, a subsidiary of the European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Company, said the purchase order signed last week in a ceremony in the Mexican capital, brings to 12 the number of EC725s the defense ministry has ordered this year.

Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to begin in the second quarter of next year.

"Such an important follow-on order underscores the confidence that Mexico's government has placed in Eurocopter, which builds on our subsidiary's 28 years of experience and investment in the country," said Joseph Saporito, Eurocopter's executive vice president–Commercial Helicopters.

Eurocopter's subsidiary in Mexico is Eurocopter de Mexico S.A. de C.V.

The company said most of the country's government departments have been operating Eurocopter helicopters for decades.

The dollar value of the new contract wasn't disclosed.

The EC725 is the latest member of Eurocopter's Cougar family. It is a medium-lift, twin-engine aircraft equipped with five main rotor blades and can carry up to 29 passengers in addition to the flight crew.
