We Will Continue Working to Create More Jobs for You and Your Family: Calderón President Felipe Calderón - Presidencia de la República go to original September 02, 2010
| Mexican President Felipe Calderón delivers speech as part of 4th State of the Union Address. (Presidencia de la República) | | Greetings from the National Palace Library, where I would like to tell you about what we are doing to build a country with a strong economy, not only so that we can live better today but also so that we can create assets for our children's future.
Mexicans were capable of coping with one of the greatest crises in modern history, since we implemented timely measures that helped us reduce the effects of the crisis on employment and families' income but above all, thanks to your work, your effort and that of millions and millions of Mexicans.
I know that it has been very difficult for everyone but we are now on the path to economic recovery.
This year alone, over half a million new jobs registered in the Social Security Institute have been created. Moreover, during the first semester, our exports grew by 36%, the highest annual growth in the past 20 years.
During this administration, direct foreign investment has also grown, in other words, the investment that comes from other countries into Mexico, which is a type of investment that remains in the country, produces jobs and has totaled nearly 70 billion dollars. They invest in Mexico because they see a country of opportunities, because they know that it is a country with a future.
And because we are working to ensure that our country has solid firms and for them to find better conditions to produce, grow, reinvest and compete in the world with anyone, which will obviously enable us to create more jobs.
In less than four years, we have also supported small and medium firms with an unprecedented amount of credit, four times more than in any other government.
And we have used training and financing to support over 900,000 micro, small and medium businesses in the country.
We have also simplified the administrative processes required to open new firms; we have reduced tariffs and we have opened up competition in various sectors of our economy.
I know that this is not yet enough, but we are on the right track.
We will continue working to create more jobs for you and your family. Our economy is on the right track. We want a competitive economy that will create jobs to have a strong Mexico.
