Oaxaca, Mexico - At least six people, including two Mexican federal lawmakers and a governor, were killed when their small plane crashed in southern Mexico Friday, the attorney general's office said.
The plane left Mexico City and went down as it was approaching the airport at the Pacific beach resort of Huatulco, in southwestern Oaxaca state, the officials said.
Two lawmakers, a regional mayor of Oaxaca, the pilot and two other yet unidentified people died in the crash, they said.
The National Action Party (PAN) of President Felipe Calderon confirmed the deaths of federal lawmakers Guillermo Zavaleta and Juan Huerta.
The Cessna plane crash occurred mid-morning some 500 meters (550 yards) from Huatulco airport, and was caused by either adverse weather conditions or pilot error, the attorney general's office said.
