Mexico Aug. Consumer Confidence Improves RTTNews go to original September 03, 2010
Mexico's consumer confidence index improved in August from the previous month, the national statistical agency INEGI said on Friday.
The consumer confidence index increased to an unadjusted 88.7 in August from 87.4 in the previous month, posting an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous year. Economists had expected a reading of 86.8. The index was 85.4 a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted index reading, showed a 0.1% increase on a monthly basis.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the index measuring the households' expectations about the personal economic situation in next twelve-month period decreased 0.99% from the previous month. The gauge measuring the expectations about the country's economic prospects in the next twelve months slipped 1.10%.
However, the index measuring for purchases of durable goods such as furniture, television, washing machine or other appliances, increased 5.86 % in August.
