A four-car accident delayed rush hour traffic on the Rio Ameca bridge for more than two hours Saturday afternoon. Though some people were injured, they were treated on the scene by civil protection and the local Red Cross, so no one had to be transferred to the hospital.
According to the official traffic police report: On Saturday around 16:23 pm police were notified of a car accident on the Rio Ameca bridge. Immediately, the Puerto Vallarta fire department sent unit B-37, commanded by Manuel Hernandez Santana and Luis Felipe Vizcarra, to the scene of the accident. The town of Bahía de Banderas also sent two civil protection units: PC-06 and PC-17.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they noticed that four cars were involved in the accident; a black Toyota pick-up with Nayarit plates, a yellow Ford Explorer with Jalisco plates, a blue Nissan Xtrail with Jalisco plates, and a red Cordoba with plates from Mexico City.
All of the vehicles were driving in a north-south direction and the collision was caused when one of the drivers had a distraction and impacted the car in front of him, which caused a chain reaction and the multiple car pile-up. Fortunately, there were only material losses and a few minor injuries.
