Experts define Nayarit Riviera as the ideal destination for the practice of sports, and specifically sailing, which is why this location was selected to host the National Cup. The event will take place between October 20-24, which will provide the selections for the 2011 Pan American Games competition and, at the same time, will be a test for hosting this event in Riviera Nayarit next year.

Some of the National Cup categories will take place from the Paradise Village Marina in Nuevo Vallarta and other categories from Marina Riviera Nayarit, La Cruz of Huanacaxtle.

Categories will be sanctioned by international judges with validity before ISAF (International Sailing Federation, by its acronym in English.) Participating classes are Laser, Laser Radial, 4.7, Pryde RSX, J24, Snipe, Hobie 16, Sunfish, Techno 2, 93 and Lightning.

President of the Mexican Sailing Federation (FMV), Ralph Nelles, said that this event will be attended by not only contestants from Mexico, but from other countries sending representatives.

"The National Cup is a preparation for the coming year and will be a great test to detect faults, although we have demonstrated our ability and experience and, in this case, we are backed by the Government of Nayarit and the Institute of Physical Culture and Sport," said Nelles.

This year, the FMV took place with the Nextel Bicentennial Regatta Cup of Mexico, which was a great success with more than 2,400 competitors from 27 countries. This event was accomplished through the combined efforts of the Government of the State, Visitors and Conventions of Riviera Nayarit, federal authorities in the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of Tourism and the Mexico Council.

Riviera Nayarit is the target of growing Mexico nautical and tourist infrastructure. The Visitors and Conventions Office (OVC) works together with the State Government, headed by Lic. Ney González Sánchez, and has placed Riviera Nayarit first in attracting tourism for more than 16 consecutive months.

This has allowed the area to create ideal conditions for the practice of nautical sports that has captured the attention of experts around the world. Thus, Riviera Nayarit qualifies as the most important destination in the country for the practice of sailing, attracting major athletes such as Tania Elías Calles and Paul Rábago, who have established their residence for high performance training in Riviera Nayarit.

"What we find here is that we can train in a variety of conditions of wind and waves, which are good for sailing throughout the entire year. It is also very easy to organize the arrangements because Riviera Nayarit has such great infrastructure support," said Vaughan Harrison, United States Olympic Sailing Team.
