President Calderón: Fox was in Error María Del Carmen Martínez Jiménez & Victor Mayén - The News go to original October 30, 2010
Mexico City – For the first time, President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa talked openly of the flaws of the government of former president, Vicente Fox. President Calderón said that it was an untimely mistake not to act against organized crime.
In an interview with BBC London, the President was asked whether Fox’s declarations to legalize the use of recreational drugs in Mexico would shatter the economic system of cartels in the country.
“I have a profound respect for our former president, but I believe he made a lot of mistakes in this matter. Perhaps, the most important fact was that he did not act on time when he should’ve. I believe that if the fight against organized crime had started 10 years ago, we would be dealing with a whole different problem now,” added the President.
Meanwhile, senators from opposing parties demanded that Fox be sanctioned for his failure to act to combat organized crime. The legislators also demanded that President Calderón close ranks in regard to the fight against insecurity and to stop blaming himself for the errors of Vicente Fox.
