Buenos Aires, Argentina — Thousands of Argentines have filed past a flag-draped coffin containing the remains of former President Nestor Kirchner as his wake nears its end.

The coffin is expected to travel in a funeral procession through the streets of Buenos Aires to the airport. From there Kirchner's remains will be flown to the southern region of Patagonia, where he was born, for burial.

His widow, current President Cristina Fernandez, presided over the wake for a second straight day Friday in the Casa de Gobierno.

People lined up in the rain outside waiting to pay their respects.

Some visitors cried out "Hang on, Cristina" and "We love you."

Kirchner, 60, died Wednesday of a heart attack.
