Mexico City - Spending among Mexican consumers contracted slightly in September from the previous month, the national statistics agency said, as Latin America's second-largest economy recovers from a deep recession.
Mexican retail sales fell 0.08 percent in September from August, according to Tuesday's report, while sales increased 4.1 percent in September compared to the same month a year earlier.
August sales got a boost from back-to-school buying, analysts said, and that could help explain part of the September drop off. The year-over-year figure, though, came in below the 4.55 percent uptick expected compared to September 2009.
