Peña, AMLO Up in Polls: Mitofsky The News go to original December 08, 2010
| Andrés Manuel López Obrador | | “If the presidential election were to happen and Santiago Creel were the candidate for the National Action Party (PAN), Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Enrique Peña Nieto would probably get the most votes, but the latter would win by a staggering 52.3 percent,” said Roy Campos, director of Consulta Mitofsky (a polling company).
According to the survey that Campos entitled “Así va México rumbo al 2012” (The way things would go for Mexico by 2012), López Obrador would garner 16.4 percent of the votes, while Creel would only get 12.5 percent.
“We still have 19 more months to go to the presidential election,” said Roy. He pointed out that the expulsion of Manuel Espino was very relevant since he was third in the polls, after Josefina Vázquez Mota who was second and Santiago Creel who was first.
Moreover, Campos said that he was surprised López Obrador’s popularity had gone up. “Our survey has demonstrated that he and Peña Nieto are the ones who climbed the popularity scale. It is evident to see that their candidacies are secure, while others are still struggling,” said the director.
According to Campos, the problem with the National Action Party (PAN) is that the party is currently living a state of turmoil. “They have yet to appoint a candidate; apparently the party does not seem very willing to act. The President should give them a pep talk,” he added.
