President Felipe Calderón Participates in 20th Latin American Summit Suzanne Stephens Waller - Presidencia de la República go to original December 03, 2010
Mexico City - Yesterday, President Felipe Calderón traveled to Argentina on a working visit to participate in the 20th Latin American Summit of Heads and State and Government on 3 and 4 December in Mar de Plata.
Prior to the Summit, and as part of his working visit, the Mexican President, together with Argentinean President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, will take part in the inaugural ceremony of the Government House Museum, where the recently restored Plastic Exercise Mural, by Mexican Painter David Alfaro Siqueiros, is currently on display.
The President’s participation in the 20th Summit is in response to an invitation by the President of Argentina, the country currently occupying the Pro Tempore Secretaryship of the Summit.
The Summit's work will revolve around the following issue: Education for social inclusion and its twentieth edition will enable the Presidents to begin the 2021 Goals Program. The education we want for the Bicentennial generations; a road map which, through the next decade, will galvanize education from an approach that responds to the current and long-term situation of Latin American countries.
Created as an instrument based on agreement and dialogue, the Latin American Summit will also review the fulfillment of the mandates entrusted to the General Secretariat and new cooperation programs will be adopted.
At the end of the Summit, the Presidents will sign the Declaration of Mar de Plata and the Action Program as well as various special declarations on issues of particular interest for participating countries.
Within this context, President Calderón will attend a working lunch with Juan Carlos I, King of Spain and President of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, as well as bilateral meetings with various Latin American heads of state.
The President will also participate in the awarding of the 2010 Latin American Quality Prize to the Equipment and Materials Testing Laboratory (LAPEM) of the Federal Electricity Commission and the Promotion and Operation Firm.
