Mexico City - Grupo Bimbo, one of the world's biggest breadmakers, will build a $200 million wind farm to supply almost all of the electric power needed for its Mexican operations, the company said on Thursday.
Bimbo said in a statement that the project, which will be built with the Mexican affiliate of privately held Spanish firm Renovalia Energy, will provide installed power of 90 megawatts, enough to run 65 plants and offices in Mexico.
The company said the plant was the biggest such effort yet by any company in the food industry.
Cemex, the world's No. 3 cement company, and retailers Wal-Mart de Mexico and Soriana have also launched wind farm projects in Mexico.
