Get carried away at the Mardi Gras celebration, being held from March 4-6, 2011 at Daiquiri Dick's Restaurant on the South side of Puerto Vallarta.
"I think it is fantastic, it creates a party atmosphere," says John Esser, Mardi Gras Guy, "On a weekend it's always a party atmosphere here, this just doubles the party atmosphere."
Fun events all weekend starting on Friday with a live DJ and a special dinner menu featuring broiled Mussels Rockefeller, Coconut Beer Shrimp with tangy mustard sauce and Crawfish Etouffee plus many other New Orleans style selections.
The third annual and flamboyant Puerto Vallarta Mardi Gras Parade starts at 10 pm on Saturday and passes right in front of the restaurant. But start the evening early and catch the spectacular Rio-style dance performance beginning at 8:30 on Daiquiri Dick's patio. The troupe, Darudha will shake it up and this is followed by a live DJ.
"I have already told friends of mine that ten years from now," says John. "You won't be able to get a hotel room here because it is going to be a huge thing, this is just the beginning and it will grow into a huge thing."
"I heard a lot about it last year and it has increased in size," says frequent visitor Chris Pearce. "I think the people are out in the streets more and I am glad to be here... and I love Puerto Vallarta."
On Saturday and Sunday dig into the Mardi Gras inspired brunch menu. Beignets, Muffalettas, Creole Quiche and other tempting taste sensations. Sunday's fashion show, which starts at noon, will only add to the party atmosphere. Plus there will be live music both mornings.
"I think it is a great idea, Mardi Gras," says Chris, "I have been to New Orleans, and it's great to bring it to Puerto Vallarta, I think every year they should increase the amount of people and the amount of floats."
The special Mardi Gras dinner menu runs Friday through Sunday along with the super brunch selections on Saturday and Sunday. Check out all the Mardi Gras menu details on their website. Oh, don't forget to sample the Hurricane Kenna and the Don Pedro Daiquiri.
