Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - An initiative for training programs has been adopted for the prevention of injuries and deaths from vehicle accidents on Puerto Vallarta's highways.
According to Ricardo Uribe, National Center for Prevention of Accidents, in coordination with the Pan American Health Organization, the Mexican Security Initiative (IMESEVI), has been authorized for Jalisco. The purpose of this initiative is to decrease the rate of road accidents and training sessions are being scheduled.
María Josefina Quijas Gómez heads the teacher association charged with the responsibility for prevention of accidents in the region and the IMESEVI program has been implemented in various states of Mexico.
Ricardo Uribe states that Vallarta has now been chosen to benefit from this accident prevention program, not only with training in vehicle safety but also for emergency management.
Among other measures are to abide by the rules of the road, not to drink alcohol while you are driving, the added security of compulsory seat belt use, giving way to pedestrians, respecting speed limits, and the safety precautions for children and infants.
These training programs will begin in April in Guanajuato, Jalisco, Nuevo Leon and Mexico City.

It is an area of 80,836 kilometers and the total number of accidents is 2,543. The number of pedestrians injured by vehicles is 498.
