The 'new' Tourism Police will focus on tourist security and services and, most importantly, on the safety, prevention of crime and overall image of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - City Hall and local authorities from Puerto Vallarta's tourism sector have reinstated tourism police in the hopes of providing a better sense of security for both local residents as well as national and foreign tourists.

A regimen to operate as touristic police has been put in place, which includes a friendly approach and the ability to interact well with the general population.

A city map with the identifiable hot spots for tourists to visit was handed out to the newly appointed police in early July.

Vallarta’s Business Association President, Carlos Gerard, attended the meeting where he stated, “we are going to focus on the tourists’ security, services, quality, prices, but more importantly, on safety, prevention and overall image; hence, tourists will see and feel that our city is safe. Our other priority is to maintain a reciprocal and transparent line of communication with the destination’s cruise ship personnel.”
