Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz recently announced that the Malecón will be officially reopened on October 16, 2011 with a celebratory event that is currently being planned by city officials and participating agencies.
"I am convinced that residents, after seeing the finished work, will forget the initial irritation that was experienced when the project started 4 months ago. As soon as they realize what has been done in the heart of our city, they will be happily pleased," assured Mayor Resendiz.
The Mayor said that he is very aware of the economic problem that has swept over not only our city but the entire country, and above all the diminution in visitors. "That’s why Puerto Vallarta has to renew itself and offer a new image to all those tourists that for some reason have stopped coming to Mexico. The different issues that our country is experiencing are the factors affecting the economy of our city, which depends 90% on tourism," he said. He also acknowledged the efforts made by local businesses and residents to get the city out of this economic downturn.
Resendiz added that the downtown renovation project has drawn a lot of world-wide attention and good things will surely come, as it is attracting the interest of tourists who stopped visiting our destination but will very likely come back to see the new face of the most visited sight in Puerto Vallarta - the Malecón.
