Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Mayor Salvador González Reséndiz recently visited the repair shop that is currently restoring the Malecón sculptures that suffered minor damage at the time of removal.
The bronze sculptures are original art pieces created by famous artists including Alejandro Colunga, Sergio Bustamante, Adrian Reynoso, Carlos Espino and Rafael Zamarripa.
The art pieces were removed from their foundations due to the reparations and maintenance work being done to Puerto Vallarta's famed Malecón, and are scheduled to be placed back in their spots during the last phase of the Malecon’s ‘face lift.’
Ricardo Duarte stated that whilst some of the sculptures are being repaired or resurfaced by craft professionals, others will undergo maintenance from the artists themselves, as is the case with Jonas Gutierrez and Adrian Reynoso.
Most sculptures will require minor intervention, as the damages are minor details like small cracks and missing pieces. The most notable alteration involves the art pieces’ foundations. Originally molded with iron, they will now be grounded to the new Malecón with stainless steel; as a preventive measure against erosion and the salty ocean breeze.
The landscaping enterprise, West 8 will be putting the sculptures back into place. Likewise, they are recruiting the assistance of the famous 'Los Arcos' artist to rebuild the arches in front of the amphitheater.
Puerto Vallarta Mayor González Reséndiz confirmed that after his visit to the designated repair shops, he is confident that the new Malecón should be unveiled on schedule.
