Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - It has been a fairly quiet rainy season in Puerto Vallarta this summer, but two tropical storms, "Irwin" and "Jova," now have Jalisco in their sites.
Both storms are still in the Pacific far from the Mexican coast, but according to the National Weather Service (NWS) could potentially hit Puerto Vallarta. The closest is "Jova" which was formed late on Thursday 800 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo.
Jova has sustained winds of 65 mph, gusts of 85, and is moving northwest at 17 kilometers per hour. The storm is expected to change its course toward north and east toward the Mexican coast, specifically Jalisco, with a possible direct hit on Puerto Vallarta Tuesday.
While there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect at the time of this article's publication, keep checking the National Weather Service's National Hurricane Center to stay abreast of Tropical Storm Jova's movement and development.
Irwin, now a hurricane, is 1,405 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, with sustained winds of 95 miles per hour and gusts of 110. Some models show it also taking aim at Jalisco. Keep checking the National Weather Service's National Hurricane Center's Public Advisories for the latest updates.
