Mexico City, Mexico – Units on patrol in the Gulf of Mexico seized 238,013 gallons of stolen diesel fuel found aboard a foreign-flagged vessel, the Mexican navy said.
A routine inspection of the Havnor revealed the craft was carrying 238,000 cans of diesel that were not listed on the manifest.
Navy personnel also discovered that the Havnor’s crew had deliberately disconnected the ship’s Automatic Identification System, which transmits location information and other data to help prevent collisions at sea.
The vessel was flying the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Havnor, its cargo and its eight-person Colombian crew were turned over to the port authority in Coatzacoalcos, the navy said.
