Advantages of Manufacturing in Mexico

June 14, 2012

Companies that manufacture in Guadalajara are well-positioned to export their wares to the United States and Canada, as well as access to important markets in Latin America.

Guadalajara, Mexico - Companies with ongoing off-shore production look towards Mexico as the near-shoring alternative pushed by rising salaries in Asia, increasing fuel costs, and extended supply chain risks.

Mexico's vicinity to the North American market translates into lower inventory and freight costs, improved speed-to-market, and better cultural alignment with managers.

Initiating and maintaining nearshore production facilities will be the subject of two Mexico manufacturing events to be hosted this fall by The Offshore Group.

Manufacturing in Guadalajara 2012 will take place from September 18th - 20th at the Fiesta Americana Grand Hotel in the business-friendly city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. Attendees at the event will be introduced to the strategic and economic advantages that accrue to companies that choose to manufacture in what is one of Latin America's most vibrant, cosmopolitan, and well-situated cities.

Companies that locate in Guadalajara are well-positioned to export their wares to the US and Canada, as well as access to important markets further south. The focus of the program is the electronics industry.

The 18th Annual Manufacturing in Mexico Summit will be held at the San Carlos Plaza Hotel in San Carlos Sonora, Mexico from October 25th - 26th. The Summit is the longest running maquiladora* industry conference, and provides a forum at which executives interested in establishing and maintaining low-cost production facilities in Mexico can gain valuable information and insight in an abbreviated time frame.

San Carlos is a retirement/resort community located on the Sea of Cortez, and is a short distance from The Offshore Group's Bella Vista and Roca Fuerte industrial parks.

*Wikipedia defines maquiladora as the Mexican name for manufacturing operations in a free trade zone, where factories import material and equipment on a duty-free and tariff-free basis for assembly, processing, or manufacturing and then re-export the assembled, processed and/or manufactured products, sometimes back to the raw materials' country of origin. Currently about 1.3 million Mexicans are employed in one or more of approximately 3,000 maquiladoras.
