Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Beginning September 1, 2012, Interjet will add one more flight on the Mexico City-Puerto Vallarta route during the weekends in response to growing demand for access to Puerto Vallarta year-round.
With domestic flights meeting 100% occupancy during the summer holiday season, Interjet decided that the additional flight was necessary to add to their Saturday schedule to Puerto Vallarta, which currently has two flights from Mexico City and one from Toluca.
In 2005, Interjet, the first low-cost carrier to begin service from Mexico City, introduced domestic fares that beat premium bus travel. Up until then, almost 40 million people annually traveled 400 kilometers or more on buses equipped with televisions, air conditioning, and washrooms between cities served by airports, according to Mexico's civil aviation director.
Today, Mexico’s domestic service caters to approximately 2.5 million passengers, representing some 6.5 percent of Mexican tourists who travel via air within the country.
