New Malecón to be Constructed in La Peñita de Jaltemba

August 23, 2012
La Penita de Jaltemba, simply known as La Penita, is an idyllic seaside village that perches on the sandy edge of the Bay of Jaltemba along the shores of Nayarit.

La Peñita de Jaltemba, Mexico - Last June, the Regidora of the Jaltemba Bay area, Romy Mora, stopped by the weekly Rotary Club meeting to announce that the contracts and paperwork for the new Malecón in La Peñita were signed and that work was set to begin between September and November of this year.

After meetings earlier this month, the start date for the construction of the La Peñita Malecón was estimated to be September 17, 2012. The performance period is slated for 106 days, which places the forecasted completion date at January 1, 2013.

If, as discussed, construction of the proposed perpendicular pier is temporarily delayed, the Malecón's may be lengthened from the 170 meters (558 feet) originally projected to a longer stretch of 217 meters (712 feet) that begins at Calle Rubén Jaramillo and run south to Calle Crisanto Jacobo. Pedestrians and vehicles will be allowed on Circuito Libertad, and planters will be added that can be used as benches.

According to an article written by David Thompson for Jaltemba Bay Life:

"Increasing the length of the Malecon requires removing 2 casas and relocating the 2 families that are now living there. The Ejido has donated 2 parcels of land for the relocation of these families and is currently working on finding them a place to live during the construction of their new homes.

Donations are being solicited to help pay for the construction of the casas. President of the Relocation Committee, Gilberto Sanchez, asks that all donations, whether in cash or materials, be dropped off at the Comex paint store in La Peñita under his name. If anyone has questions, they can contact Sr. Gomez on his cell (311) 122-5210. Numerous donations of cement and brick have already been received."

Editor's note: Those who are unfamiliar with the idyllic seaside village of La Peñita de Jaltemba can read all about it in Monique Polak's article, 'Serendipity: Thinking Small Leads to the Perfect Mexican Beach Town' right HERE on BanderasNews.
