May 10th Vallarta News Brief and Upcoming Events

May 10, 2013

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of several of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, a few Mexico news stories, and some upcoming events you won't want to miss.

Marina Vallarta to Get a Face Lift

Featured in National Geographic magazine as one of the world’s most beautiful marinas, Marina Vallarta was developed in the early 80's by Group Sidek and now faces the challenge of modernization. In an effort to renew the image of Marina Vallarta, and to reposition the development as a must-see city attraction, a comprehensive renovation project headed by businessman Elias Sacal, who has the concession of the marina docks, will soon begin. Plans are in the works for the refurbishment of the Marina's image through a comprehensive cleaning of the area, as well as new signage and street amenities such as lighting, litter bins, and benches; and overall improvements to the Malecón and to the facades of businesses and restaurants along the boardwalk. In addition to providing more installations to attract more tourists from every walk of life, Elias Sacal plans to encourage new investment and bring in new brands, such as world-class jewelers, designer boutiques, prestigious salons, and luxury car dealership that will appeal to more affluent visitors.

Health Secretariat of Jalisco to Administer Vaccines May 11-17th

In order to encourage people to participate in the various preventive measures the state employs to promote better health while empowering parents in identifying warning signs to prevent disease, the Second National Health Week will be held in Puerto Vallarta and throughout the state of Jalisco from May 11-17th. According to the Health Secretariat of Jalisco (SSJ), the main objective is to encourage public participation in implementing preventive action through the administration of basic scheme vaccines, and to train parents in identifying the warning signs for the prevention of diseases and other health risks. During the course of the week, a total of 882,940 doses of Polio, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Meningeal Tuberculosis (BCG), Hepatitis B, Diphtheria, Pentavalent Acellular, rotavirus, and other vaccines are expected to be administered by SSJ nursing brigades, along with Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) family medical units, ISSSTE clinics, and other state agency health centers. State health authorities believe such intensive coverage will increase inoculation in children under the age of five, thereby achieving fewer cases of diseases that are preventable by vaccination.

Aerosmith to Perform Concert in Mexico City This Fall

Aerosmith has announced their return to the Mexico City Arena on October 27, 2013, as part of their "Global Warming" tour, promoting their latest album, "Music From Another Dimension." Distinct creators of rock and roll, the band members are legends, icons and idols, dynamic in the present; as cool and innovative now as they were thirty years ago. They are a phenomenon, a force of nature, trail-blazing, unstoppable and show no signs of slowing down. With Steven Tyler on vocals, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford on guitars, Tom Hamilton on bass, and Joey Kramer on drums, they’ve outdone the trends and fads of rock and roll to become one of the most powerful and electrifying forces in popular music.
