Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - With between 90 and 100 percent of Puerto Vallarta hotel rooms occupied, this Summer's tourism figures have far exceeded expectations. Over the past three weeks, an average of 20,700 rooms were occupied each day, representing an economic influx of more than one billion pesos.
The City's Municipal Tourism Director, Carlos Gerard Guzman, explained that prior to the Summer vacation period, only 80% occupancy was registered in the reservation system, however, various indicators show a positive increase in projected tourism numbers. For example, the Port Authority Administration (IPA) reports that between 700 and 2000 passengers have taken the various boat tours offered by local companies this summer, "which exceeds even the number of tours sold during this year's Easter vacations," a period that traditionally exceeds 100% occupancy.
The number of pedestrians, he said, is reflected in the 6,227 people that have been attended by personnel at the Municipal Tourism Directorate's information modules on the Malecón, in the Olas Altas area and at the department's offices at the municipal presidency, along with the almost 200 domestic and foreign visitors who have participated in the free El Centro and Romantic Zone tours offered by the City.
"The summer season was successful, thanks to all of the promotional efforts that have been made in coordination with the Tourism Board, the CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau), the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco and the federal government to market our destination to national tourists. How many tourists are we talking about? Out of the approximately 3.7 million tourists that visit Puerto Vallarta every year, we welcome an average of 2.2 million domestic tourists, and 1.5 million foreign tourists, mostly Americans and Canadians," said Gerard Guzman.
Add to this the unforgettable experiences that Puerto Vallarta offers its visitors, which are strengthened by the quality and caring treatment offered by all of the destination's different tourism and service providers.
According to data provided by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Director, in 2012 the API reported that just over 500,000 people took sightseeing tours on small boats, and from January to June 30 this year, prior to the summer vacation period, they had recorded 254,000 visitors, which means that nearly 15% of the domestic and foreign tourists who visit the port each year take these types of tours, while a yearly average of 400,000 tourists enjoy overland excursions.
He also reported that between October 2012 and July 2013, the Municipal Government's tourist service modules have served a total of 51,508 visitors.
