Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Some of the most progressive beauty salons in Puerto Vallarta took their expertise to new heights for Hair Spray 2, the annual fund raiser for SETAC, Vallarta's community health center. Over ten salons participated in this glamorous event, which took place earlier this month at Mandala Sky Bar on the Malecón.

Hairspray Night is the only show of its kind in the Banderas Bay area, and organizers hope to make it bigger and better every year. This year, stylists created a variety of artistic interpretations on various themes, from mermaids, to gladiators, to dragons, and even recycled trash. The level of creativity surpassed last year's models. The hair dressers and make-up artists spent hours putting their catwalk presentations together. They did not disappoint, and were received with rounds of applause by the over 200 attendees that filled the Sky Bar in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

In addition to the spectacular runway show, there was also entertainment provided by singer Daniel Portela, drag queen Kasandra, dancers Fabian and William, and classic charro singer, José de Jesús. There was also a raffle, where winners received coupons for various restaurants and other local businesses. A good time was had by all.

Just over $40,000 pesos were raised for SETAC. The community health center provides many services, including HIV testing, STD testing, milk and supplements for HIV positive mothers, assistance with obtaining health services, transportation, education and counseling. SETAC has an attentive and supportive staff that will help anyone walking through their doors. They sincerely care about people seeking their services. The SETAC operating budget needs to grow in order to provide the many services they hope to continue providing the community.
