Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - A lifeguard at Puerto Vallarta's Los Muertos beach rescued a one year old child which had been snatched from the arms of its father by a large wave.
The incident took place last Sunday at 12:20 in the afternoon only a short distance from the pier. Mr. Luis Alberto Pulido was in the ocean with his baby when a strong wave knocked him down and literally tore the child from his arms, dragging the child out into Banderas Bay.
The lifeguard on duty, Mr. Juan Gabriel Cardenas Flores, observed the incident, and immediately jumped into the water and managed to rescue the child.
The toddler was choking and very frightened when Flores brought it to shore and released it to the parents, but not injured. Pulido, thanked the lifeguard copiously for his heroic rescue, saying that if the lifeguard had not been so alert, the child could have drowned.
We commend the remarkable actions by our local hero. Our lifeguards are trained daily to help provide the best safety, and safety precautions, possible for the thousands of tourists and Vallartenses attending the beaches of our city.
You can help support our local lifeguards and firefighters by purchasing their 2014 "Heroes" calendar. All of the proceeds from the calander sales go to programs aimed at education and training for our city's "paladins of safety." Go to bomberoscalendar.com and get yours today.
