Vallarta DIF Prepares Pregnant Teens for Motherhood

April 1, 2014

More of Puerto Vallarta's young women have the opportunity to join the PAIDEA program, as a new group will begin on April 5th at the Directorate for the Protection of Children (DPI) offices in Colonia Coapinole.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - DIF President Magaly Fregoso Ortiz recently congratulated the 76 teenagers who completed this year's PAIDEA training (a program for the Prevention and Comprehensive Care of Teen Pregnancy), proudly presenting the girls with the baby supplies that this program offers to teenaged mothers. Moreover, a total of 29 of these adolescent mothers received Promajoven scholarship cards.

"We are committed to the most vulnerable, which is why we recognize these young women, who today concluded the course in order to receive a scholarship to take a training course or continue their academic studies," she said. In this context, Fregoso Ortiz urged the new graduates to continue acquiring knowledge through the different programs offered by the DIF (Puerto Vallarta's Municipal Family Services Department.)

The Family Services system encourages and supports these young women, making it possible for them to continue with their personal growth, she noted, saying that those who completed this cycle can also join the School for Parents workshop, and that DIF will follow up as required, especially in those cases with particular difficulties.

Fregoso Ortiz took a moment to thank the owner of the "El Baúl de Siena" bazaar for their ongoing support in providing baby items to these young mothers. Then she announced that more of Puerto Vallarta's young women have the opportunity to join the PAIDEA program, as a new group will begin on April 5th at the Directorate for the Protection of Children (DPI) offices in Colonia Coapinole. She added that DIF also offers a variety of other programs for Puerto Vallarta's young people in colonias Mojoneras, Progreso, Coapinole, Remanse and Volcanes.
