Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Interjet airlines will begin operating 22 additional flights to PV this summer season, which will add to the 28 flights that the company currently offers from Mexico City and Toluca to Puerto Vallarta.
Lourdes de la Torre Gutiérrez, the airline's station manager at the city's Gustavo Díaz International Airport, reported that the 22 additional flights are in response to the airline's expectations of increased travel to Puerto Vallarta during the months of July and August.
She explained that Interjet currently operates three daily flights from Mexico and one from Toluca, and the 22 additional flights will be needed to satisfy the demand for flights to Vallarta during the six week summer vacation period.
"Currently we are operating four daily flights during the week at 90% occupancy and our weekend flights from Mexico and Toluca are sold out," said the airline executive.
De la Torre said the summer season is always busy for the airline because it brings national tourists to Puerto Vallarta from Mexico City, where passengers can board a plane and take a direct flight to this popular beach destination.
"The domestic market has always responded very well to our summer flight offers. Even in the crisis years, domestic tourism has remained strong and no one has stopped traveling during the summer season, which is why the company is interested in operating additional flights, to ensure more domestic travel to Puerto Vallarta," said De la Torre.
The 22 additional flights, which will be available from July 16 to August 15, will employ the airline's fleet of Airbus 320 aircraft with seating for 150 passengers.
