PV Elementary Schools Receive Computers
As part of the State Education Modernization Program, which has a budget of 65 million peso for the year, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Ramón Guerrero Martinez and Jalisco State Governor Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz delivered 120 computers to elementary school teachers in the North Coast Region on June 9, 2014. During the delivery of the computers, the Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to the teachers of this city and thanked the Governor for his help in providing the teachers with these educational tools, which will help them better educate Puerto Vallarta's children. "Teachers are responsible for shaping the next generation, and with the new equipment they'll be able to prepare their lesson plans more easily and, in turn, better prepare their students," said the Mayor. "We take great pride in delivering computers to our teachers, who now have the tools to meet the needs of today's students," the Governor added.
TAR to Offer Aguascalientes to Puerto Vallarta Flights
Querétaro-based carrier, Transporte Aéreo Regional (TAR), has just announced a new flight connecting Aguascalientes to Puerto Vallarta, increasing the number of Mexican cities connected to our destination by the airline to three. The regional director of the Jalisco Ministry of Tourism, Ludwig Estrada Virgen, stressed that the addition of this flight will be very important for Puerto Vallarta, as the 50-passenger air crafts will operate as a supplementary airline for larger enterprises. In addition to Aguascalientes, travelers can also book direct flights from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara and Querétaro through TAR. Estrada Virgen was pleased that the airline industry entrepreneurs are betting on Puerto Vallarta, saying that it is a sign that aviation organizations believe national tourism is on the rise and they trust our city to deliver an enjoyable vacation experience.
Vallarta Hosts 2014 Pacific Alliance "Business Matchmaking" Expo

Puerto Vallarta Mayor Ramón Guerrero Martínez recently welcomed more than 700 exporters and importers from Pacific Alliance countries (Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru), as well as Asia-Pacific entrepreneurs from China, Korea and Japan; along with state and federal authorities to the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center for two days of "Business Matchmaking." During the opening ceremonies, the mayor stressed that such meetings allow Puerto Vallarta to not only show off its natural richness and typical Mexican town essence, but also the range of investment opportunities that are available due in large part to the sustainable development efforts the city has made to become the premier tourist destination that it is today. According to the former head of the ProMéxico promotion of exports unit, Elena Achar, more than 3000 meetings between 500 business in the agriculture, manufacturing and clothing sectors, were held during the 2014 Business Expo. As a result, it is estimated that $100 million dollars in business deals will be closed in the short term, while the sum of $300 million USD will be reached in the medium and long term.
ASPV Teacher Awarded Seashore Graduate Fellowship
Mrs. Lisa Schalla, the American School of Puerto Vallarta's English/Social Studies Department Head, National Honor Society Advisor, and Director of the ASPV service program,
"Leer y Crecer," was recently awarded the 2014 Seashore Graduate Fellowship by the College of Education and Human Development of the University of Minnesota. Seashore Graduate Fellowships are awarded to doctoral students whose interests "focus on issues of broad social inquiry problems, social and cultural change, or social justice." Lisa's research interests are in the family-school relationship, cultural-historical activity theory, and home literacy environments. Schalla has also been named a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow for her work with "Leer y Crecer," a program designed by the National Honor Society (NHS) students at the American School of Puerto Vallarta (ASPV) to promote reading among public school children, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Bonn, Germany.
