Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - During President Enrique Peña Nieto recent visit to the Banderas Bay region for the IX Pacific Alliance Summit, which was held in Riviera Nayarit June 19-20, Mayor Ramón Guerrero Martínez asked the President to support the flood prevention project in the Portales area of Puerto Vallarta.
The Mayor asked the President for support through the Fund for the Prevention of Natural Disasters (FOPREDEN) to help complete the comprehensive flood mitigation project, which consists of expanding and redirecting the La Virgen arroyo (stream), saying that this is a priority for the safety of thousands of local families.
The mayor personally delivered a written request to the federal executive, which detailed the importance of this work that will not only reduce the risk of floods, but also provide peace of mind to just over 14,591 people living in this area that are affected by flooding every year during the rainy season.
The works represent an investment of $44,299,000 pesos and will allow the construction of a hydraulic concrete watercourse by which this stream will be re-channeled.
The Mayor also thanked the President for the federal resources given to this city by FOPREDEN in 2012, which were utilized during the first stage of these preventive works.
