Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico - There's a lot of enthusiasm among carriers at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. With a few weeks to go before the 'formal start' of the summer season, which starts when the school year ends, the number of passenger arrivals has already increased significantly.
Transporte Terrestre de Puerto Vallarta director, Alberto Sanchez Cardenas, said that flights from Mexico City on Volaris, Interjet, Aeroméxico and Viva Aerobus, as well as flights from Queretaro and Guadalajara on the regional airline TAR, are arriving at least 80 percent full.
"This encourages carriers and all who work at the airport, because there is movement and this indicates that although some days things were 'flojonas' (lazy), the Summer season is doing well... but we always want more," he said sincerely.
But overall, it's all good, as was proven last Thursday when all flights were at 80%, even though the school holidays don't officially start until July 15 or 20th. "In fact," he said, "many schools are already on holiday, especially the faculties of universities."
The tourism influx itself is good, "it's not like they said, that it was 'going to be a slow summer.' In fact, there is plenty of movement at the airport, and the extra flights are full. There are also a lot of buses arriving... these buses move a lot of people, most of them are going to the Riviera Nayarit, but some are traveling to Puerto Vallarta, too."
