2014 Youth Orchestra Meeting Closing Concert

The Closing Concert of the Primer Encuentro Orquestal Infantil y Juvenil Puerto Vallarta 2014. (First Puerto Vallarta Children and Youth Orchestra Meeting) will be held this Saturday, August 9 at 7 pm at Plaza Caracol. Kids from the local Rotarians Orchestra, Municipal Music Workshops and the Puerto Vallarta Orchestra School, accompanied by guests from various music institutions from Aguascalientes and the Crescendo Orchestra of San Miguel de Allende will perform the repertoire, which they have been working on for the past week under the guidance of teachers and coaches of all of the participating institutions. The concert, which they will direct themselves, includes music from around the world, classic symphonies and songs from popular movies such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. Entrance is free, so come out and show your support of these young musicians!

Ricky Martin to be Judge on 'The Voice ... Mexico'

And the fourth and final judge for "The Voice ... Mexico" is: Ricky Martin. The Puerto Rican pop star will join Yuri, Julion Alvarez and Italian songstress Laura Pausini as the judges for the singing contest. Mexico's Televisa network announced that Martin will be the fourth judge in a statement Thursday, saying that "all his experience and musical abilities will be available for the next season of The Voice ... Mexico." Martin, a Grammy-winning artist who ascended to international stardom following the hit single Livin' la Vida Loca, participated as coach on The Voice Australia. Previous coaches on The Voice Mexico (La Voz Mexico in Spanish) include Latin Grammy winner Miguel Bose, reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel and Jenni Rivera, who died in a plane crash after appearing on The Voice Mexico's second season. The fourth edition of "The Voice ... Mexico" begins September 7th.

Villa Mandarinas Hosts Los Mangos Library Summer FUNdraiser

On Sunday, August 24th from 12-8 pm, Villa Mandarinas will host a Summer benefit for the Puerto Vallarta Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos. Come out for a day of fun and friendship at one of the most spectacular oceanfront villas on Vallarta's Southern Shores, where you can enjoy the villa's three swimming pools, kayaks, snorkeling gear and pool tables, as well as live Brazilian music and a fashion show. Refreshment stations will be set up around the property, serving ceviche, chicken salads, vegetarian dishes and desserts, along with a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets, available at the library and Cassandra Shaw's Jewelry on Basilio Badillo, cost just $100 pesos, which is credited toward the food and beverage during the event. You can purchase additional food portions for $100 pesos; desserts, beer or wine for $30 pesos; cocktails for $50 pesos, and soft drinks for $20 pesos each. All proceeds help support the many programs available at Los Mangos Public Library, which is not "just a place for books," but a true community cultural center. The library belongs to this community, and depends solely on donations to keep it up and running, so grab your friends and come out to enjoy an extraordinary day of fabulous food, friendship and fun in the sun - all for a great cause.

Club Volkswagen Presents the Riviera Nayarit VW Festival

The Vallarta Volkswagen Club will showcase over 150 classic and newer, show-quality, VWs at the Riviera Nayarit VW Festival and exhibition, to be held at Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on August 30th and 31st. The Volkswagen Fest is an event for VW lovers who appreciate the originality of the VW Bug and enjoy the mutual pursuit of this hobby with family and friends. This is a non-profit event held in order to showcase the cars of those enrolled in clubs with the same purpose, and those owners who wish to participate. In addition to the VW car exhibit there will also be several different activities that promise to be fun for the entire family at the La Cruz Marina.
