Third Annual 'Motomania' Starts Today in San Blas

go to original
November 27, 2014

The Historic Port of San Blas will host the third edition of the Motomanía San Blas from November 27th through the 30th. This event has positioned San Blas as the top biker port in the Pacific. It is endorsed by the Federación Mexicana de Motociclismo and has become one of the 40 most important of its kind in the country.

The yearly increase of participants has been noticeable. In 2012 there were around 600 motorcycles taking part in the event, this year there will be over 1,000 participants riding in from more than 10 states: San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, Distrito Federal, and Nuevo Leon, just to mention a few.

This is why it is also the second most attended event of its kind in the country. The head organizer of the event and president of the Ovejas Negras Moto Club, Román Paz Mondragón, stated that the end purpose of the event is to promote and create awareness of San Blas among motorcycle enthusiasts.

The welcome party takes place on Thursday. To let riders relax after their long rides, the esplanade along the dock (to one side of the ex-customs building) will be set up for camping, and will have free WiFi. It’s also the location of the concerts and festivities scheduled for Friday.

The beach party starts on Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm at El Borrego beach; at 6 pm attendees can take souvenir photos at La Contaduría. The evening’s events come to a close on the main plaza courtesy of Jalisco’s Acrobatic Squadron. The activities end with drag races on the runway.

"We’d like to thank the Riviera Nayarit CVB. Without their help we wouldn’t have been able to hold the event. Their support was key to the entire experience," said Paz Mondragón.

The event has certainly gained importance over the years, especially in terms of organization and security and, thanks to its membership with the Federación Mexicana de Motociclismo, the participants are insured against accidents.
