December 18, 2014
Hundreds of colorfully-dressed clowns made the journey to the Basilica of Guadalupe on Wednesday to give thanks for employment and good health in an annual pilgrimage to Mexico’s holiest site.

Mexico City, Mexico – The streets of Mexico City burst with sound and color as hundreds of clowns made their annual pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady Guadalupe in Mexico City on Wednesday to pay homage to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Dressed in colorful costumes, hundreds of clowns from all over Mexico walked towards the Basilica to give thanks to the virgin for the work they have received.

"I want to give thanks to Lupita (Guadalupe) for this great blessing of being a clown because its a very beautiful profession. Thank you for lots of miracles and a lot of work," said Estrellita.

Mexican clowns have been making the pilgrimage for over 30 years to attend a mass in honor of the saint and call for her protection in the coming year.

"Faith, devotion and the willingness to move forward because there are many clowns who have all kinds of problems and we call on the virgin for her help to solve them," said Figura the clown.

The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and is revered by millions of Roman Catholic faithful.
