Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Carlos Gerard Guzmán, who has been the Director of Tourism for the City of Puerto Vallarta since October of 2012, submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor Ramón Guerrero Martínez on January 8, 2015.
In his letter of resignation Guzmán said he would be leaving the position to focus on family, as well as personal and business projects. He reiterated that his departure was positive and that he is grateful for having had the opportunity to work with the Mayor and his colleagues in the city.
The Mayor accepted the decision and said that he appreciated the work Carlos Gerard has done at the forefront of this important agency, and reported that in the coming days the official change of office will be realized.
An excerpt of Carlos Gerard's announcement reads:
I've made this decision so I can spend more time working on my personal and business projects. However, it is important for me to clarify that although my work as head of the Municipal Tourism Department concludes this coming January 15, this will not change my commitment and love of Puerto Vallarta.... I will continue to encourage and promote the development of this great tourist destination... In recent years, I've worked hand-in-hand with government and private initiatives. We've worked tirelessly for our destination, reaching historic achievements that fill me with satisfaction and [an even greater] love of Puerto Vallarta.
During Guzmán's tenure at the department, the city has experienced record growth in its tourism sector. "Whoever occupies the position," the statement said, "will continue the policies that the current municipal administration has implemented to make Puerto Vallarta the best tourist destination in the country."
