City of Vallarta Working on Garbage Collection Problem

July 20, 2015

Acting Mayor Javier Mendez Pelayo said that in addition to identifying problem areas, he has spoken with the garbage collection concessionaire, who has promised to resolve the issue.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The municipal government is actively seeking to provide a definitive solution to the problem of garbage collection in the colonias of Puerto Vallarta and is working to resolve the issue in a timely manner, said the acting mayor, Javier Mendez Pelayo.

He explained that he, personally, was given the daily task of touring not just the tourist zones, but also different points around the city to identify those areas where municipal intervention is needed immediately.

Pelayo Mendez said that in addition to his daily expeditions, he has spoken with the trash concessionaire, who has promised to resolve the issue. However, the city is prepared to provide the service in case of failure, and has the support of committed citizens who are willing to loan out their vehicles for the collection and transportation of waste.

"There are many responsible citizens in Puerto Vallarta who are ready to help us keep our city clean. Some have even offered to lend us their trucks and dump trucks, so we will be prepared to do the job if the company lets us down," he said.

Mendez Pelayo also called on the public to contribute to resolving the problem by putting out their trash in a timely manner. He said that in many colonias he noticed the neighbors putting their trash bags out after garbage trucks made their regularly scheduled collections, generating pollution and problems that could be avoided.
