August 25, 2015

Before the awards ceremony, Puerto Vallarta municipal authorities and acting mayor, Javier Mendez Pelayo, accompanied the firefighters for a mass of thanksgiving at the Guadalupe cathedral.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - During an emotional ceremony on August 20th, El Día Nacional del Bombero (National Firemen's Day) in Mexico, the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta and acting mayor, Javier Mendez Pelayo, praised this group of heroes and their families for their selfless service to the city.

The Mayor also took this opportunity to recognize three members of the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection, Fire and Lifeguards who, after 20 years of service, officially retired with the recognition and respect they so deserve for working every day to ensure the well being of locals and visitors alike.

"Honor to whom honor is due - and you deserve the recognition and respect of all in Puerto Vallarta; for the efforts, ethics and humility with which you have worked over the years; for your conviction to serve Puerto Vallarta and its people," Pelayo said in his speech.

The special recognitions were given to Second Firefighter Candido Calvillo Suarez, Second Officer Pedro Mendía Cortes, and Second Officer Julio Camacho Balbuena, who showed their courage, loyalty, sacrifice and conviction in serving the people of Puerto Vallarta, before retiring with the satisfaction of knowing that they set an example for future fire fighters.

"The retirement of these three first responders concludes a cycle at this institution, they are leaders who are leaving a large footprint behind as examples of commitment, professionalism and the spirit of service. They will always be a part of the history of this municipal agency and will always have a special place in this institution," the Mayor emphasized.

Javier Pelayo thanked all of the city's fire fighters for showing up every day to be at the service of Vallarta, because regardless of whether it is day or night, they are always ready to do their job, often sacrificing time with their loved ones. He also acknowledged the unconditional support that their families give them so they can carry out their daily work, making them (the families) an essential part of the exemplary performance of our bomberos and the entire fire department.

The Mayor extended appreciation to the Deputy Director of Civil Protection and Fire, Sergio Ramirez Lopez, for the great team that he has complied. He also acknowledged the support that the public and various social institutions provide to this administration, especially to the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection, Fire and Lifeguards, which makes all of their hard work possible.

As part of the celebration, the Mayor led a symbolic presentation in which awards and bonuses were distributed to all members of the fire department. In this framework, members of the Fire, Civil Protection and Lifeguard departments proudly gave recognition to the head of the municipality, for the work he's done on their behalf.
