Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Bachelor of Architecture Students at the Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta) of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG), took first place in the annual design competition held by CANACERO (National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry.)
The challenge was to design a Sports and Social Centre to be built in Ixtapa, Jalisco; integrating steel and the area's social, cultural and demographic environment. With their victory, students Rubí Carolina Medina Cotero, Jesús Alexandro Loya García and Valentín Santos Arredondo will travel to Argentina in November to represent Mexico in the Latin American competition. The students were advised by Centro Universitario de la Costa professor and researcher, architect Roger Pascual Vidal Sanchez.
Students in the eighth and ninth semesters of the architectural program were creditors of the first prize of 50,000 pesos, as well as the registration fee for the ALACERO contest in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to be held from November 9-11, 2015, in which one team representative has the support of event organizers for an all expenses paid trip to the South American country.
In recognition of the university students' efforts and talent, CUCosta will finance the other two students' trip so the entire team can travel to Argentina to represent the University of Guadalajara's CUCosta and Mexico amongst the best universities in Latin America.
