September 21, 2015

When completed, the four-lane asphalt highway will cover the 7.2 kilometers between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta Mita, and will allow for the safe passage of both motorists and indigenous wildlife.

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - According to Nayarit Secretary of Public Works, Juan Ignacio Avila Ruiz, the new highway between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta Mita is almost complete and is expected to be complete in December of this year.

With an investment of 250 million pesos, the new road is being constructed in the municipality of Bahia de Banderas with the goal of attracting more domestic and foreign tourists to the Riviera Nayarit's beach destinations.

In addition to shortening the distance between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta Mita for the tourists who visit Riviera Nayarit beaches every year, the new highway will provide a safe and convenient route for the thousands of local motorists who travel between the two municipalities every day.

Ávila Ruiz explained that during Governor Roberto Sandoval Castañeda's visits to the Banderas Bay area, many citizens in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta Mita asked for an alternate road to be built, as the existing road between the two destinations is dangerous and unsafe with countless curves.

Before construction of the new highway was approved, the Governor, through the Nayarit Ministry of Public Works, performed studies to determine the impact it would have on the environment and the viability of changing the use of land in this area of the state.

When completed, the four-lane asphalt road will cover a distance of 7.2 kms, and will allow for the safe passage of both motorists and indigenous wildlife.
