Impulsora Latinoamericana de Energia Renovable and its partner, Spanish utility Iberdrola, invested US$125 million to install 33 wind turbines on land leased from rural communities for 30 years.

Puebla, Mexico - Mexican firm Impulsora Latinoamericana de Energia Renovable (ILER) has completed the construction of the 66-MW Pier II wind farm in Esperanza, Puebla, Mexican daily El Economista said Sunday.

ILER and its partner, Spanish utility Iberdrola, invested $125 million USD to install 33 wind turbines on land leased from rural communities for 30 years.

Gilberto Marin Quintero, chairman of ILER, said that the plant is able to provide clean energy to up to 55 firms, allowing them to save 10% to 30% of energy costs. Until now, 12 MW of the capacity has been reserved for 14 firms in the states of Puebla, Veracruz and Jalisco.

Overall, Pier II has the capacity to supply electricity to 25,000 homes, offsetting 55,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions a year, as announced by Iberdrola at the start of construction in August 2014.

ILER is planning to develop two other wind farms of 150 MW each, the first one as of 2016.
