Mexico City - Thousands of couples took part in a mass wedding ceremony in Mexico City on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
More than 5,000 people descended on Mexico City’s central square for the festivities. Among them were 2,165 couples ready to get married.
Sitting in front of a large stage, the couples were asked if they would like to marry each other. They responded with a resounding "yes."
The wedding ceremony embraced couples of various ages, races and sexual orientations.
The number of those getting married topped last year's numbers, setting a new record for couples marrying at the same time in Mexico City.
There was no charge to any couple that wanted to get married.
They held a raffle after the ceremony and gave out prizes including trips to the Mexican resorts of Cancun and Los Cabos, as well as money to build a house.
