As the Summer Solstice is not only the longest day of the year, but also marks the onset of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it shares special significance in many parts of the world. The date varies between June 20 and June 22, depending on the year, and which time zone you are in, but over the centuries, the June solstice has inspired countless festivals, midsummer celebrations and religious holidays. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 International Yoga Day. Here in Puerto Vallarta both events will be celebrated with the Yoga Colectivo Solsticio from June 17 through 19. The event's main goal is to gather the community of Puerto Vallarta together in celebration, and to promote and spread the culture of health and wellness. The Inauguration of this Festival will be on Friday, June 17th at 7:00 pm at Los Arcos del Malecón, and will feature a fusion of music and world disciplines, including: Chanting mantras, Taiko drumming, an Aikido demonstration (a Japanese martial art, Aikido literally means "the way of harmonious spirit"), a Butoh dance, and more. On Saturday and Sunday, the celebrations move to the Isla Rio Cuale where you will enjoy conferences, active meditation, Yoga and Tai Chi classes, booths selling healthy food, clothing and Mandalas for sale, a lots of healthy outdoor fun. More information, and a complete schedule of events can be found on the

Puerto Vallarta will be strongly represented at the XIX Festival of Theatre of the Interior presented by the Jalisco Ministry of Culture in coordination with the Director of Culture and Education. This year's theater festival, which will be held from June 18-25 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, will feature three productions from Puerto Vallarta, including two by our very own director Ramiro Daniel. Earlier this month, Puerto Vallarta audiences were given a chance to see two of Ramiro Daniel's current hits,
Un Hombre Ajeno with Cesar Daniel Bravo Ramirez and Beto Mora and
El Grito with Ana Karenina Muñoz, both of which were selected for the film festival, at la Estación and the Central Cultural Cuale.
El Javi Flamenco Fusion concert at The Jazz Foundation
This Saturday, June 18th at 9:00 pm, The Jazz Foundation will present "Musica Bajo Los Arboles," a Flamenco Fusion concert by El Javi. Denver-based Flamenco guitarist El Javi combines the sounds of his acoustic Flamenco guitar with the minimalist drum set of percussionist Jordi Marin, building a bridge of his own between Flamenco and progressive rock... a bridge he calls, 'Flamenco Fusion.' The best representation of El Javi lives in his live performances, and capturing that essence in the studio acts as the key element in the recent release of "A Gypsy Journey," an extended play recording that the instrumental duo is currently promoting on a tour through Mexico. If you love Flamenco, you won't want to miss this! Tickets to "Musica Bajo Los Arboles" cost $60 pesos and can be purchased at the door of The Jazz Foundation, located on the Malecón at Allende 116 in downtown Puerto Vallarta. More concert information can be found on the
Facebook event page. To learn more about El Javi,
