Weekend and Upcoming Events in Vallarta-Nayarit

January 13, 2017

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some upcoming happenings in Vallarta-Nayarit and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe Benefit Concert

On Tuesday, January 17th at 8:00 pm, a benefit concert featuring the works of Bach, Torelli, Purcell, Delta, Franc, Vivaldi, Bernstein and Webber performed by local musicians Shanti Doelger and Astro Delta on organ, soprano Sherry Jacobs, tenor Charles Baillargeon and David Boz on trumpet, will be held at the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. You haven't truly realized the rich history of Puerto Vallarta until you visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the heart of El Centro (downtown). Construction of the cathedral began in 1929 and took twelve years to complete. Its crown dominates the skyline and is known around the world as the symbol of Puerto Vallarta. Inside, visitors find authentic works of art such as the paintings that decorate the cupola by painter Daniel Lechon, the Via Cruces along its interior walls, the pulpit, the confessional, the antique marble altar, and the communion railings, cut of precious woods by Señor Martiniano Ramírez. Most impressive is the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe created by artist Ignacio Ramírez, a faithful copy, consecrated by the original found in Her Basilica in Mexico City. Over the years, the church has become one of the most visited and photographed places by tourists who visit our city. If you haven't visited before, make plans now to attend the benefit concert on Tuesday, January 17th at 8:00 pm. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged!

Tony Collantez Art Installation Coming to ART VallARTa

Famously reserved, even secretive, Mexican artist Tony Collantez opens his visionary doors of perception to curious art lovers on Friday, January 20th, with a special celebration of his art, entitled "IMAGINADOOR."
