Vallarta to Implement Daily Garbage Collection System

May 15, 2017

With the acquisition of new garbage trucks, and the new daily trash collection system designed by Mayor Arturo Dávalos, to be implemented later this month, the streets of Puerto Vallarta will soon be cleaner.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - In their ongoing efforts to keep moving towards a greener and more prosperous city for all Vallartenses, and to make Puerto Vallarta a more attractive tourist destination, the municipal government, headed by Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, is preparing to implement a new daily garbage collection system.

The Municipal Public Services manager, Rodolfo Domínguez Monroy, announced that, as part of the actions commissioned by the mayor, the restructuring of routes for the new trash collection system has already been designed. Once the new trucks arrive, they will begin diffusing the garbage pick-up schedules in neighborhoods throughout the municipality so that everyone will know when to take out their trash.

Benigno Lara Zamora, the head of the Department of Public Welfare, explained that the project is aimed at bringing back the previous daily collection system that Arturo Dávalos implemented as the head of Municipal Public Services. "Which at the time worked perfectly," he said.

He also pointed out that the present administration has made significant advances in the obtainment of garbage collection vehicles. Currently, 15 pre-owned units are operating, eight of which were received from the concessionaire Proactiva (two more are being repaired) and seven new trucks, donated by the private sector, will arrive this month.

Similarly, they are working with the garbagemen to make the implementation of the new system run smoothly. "That way we will have all of the necessary infrastructure to implement the daily collection. We have to remember that the subject of garbage has concerned us all for years and that the Mayor and his team have put their best efforts into improving the image of Puerto Vallarta," he added.

Lara Zamora noted that in neighborhoods throughout the municipality, including delegations, garbage will be picked up every day except on Sundays. "So, as the daily collection begins, citizens are asked to continue to support us by respecting the new schedules. We will start as soon as everything is ready and we receive the instruction of the Mayor," he concluded.
