Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The current municipal administration, led by Arturo Dávalos Peña, is making great strides towards the completion of the urban bypass roads, which will allow south-bound, pass-through traffic to avoid Vallarta completely. The objective is to give drivers more options when traveling from north to south, which will reduce the vehicular load on the city's main avenues.
The Mayor indicated that this will also solve the problem of traffic congestion that occurs during "peak hours" on Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio. The last section of Avenida México is currently being rehabilitated from Avenida Guadalajara to Centro Universitario de la Costa, which will connect the road from Ixtapa to the entrance to the avenue, passing through Fluvial Vallarta on Avenida Los Tules.
Other options already in use include the Grandes Lagos avenue, which also passes through Fluvial Vallarta, and of course Francisco Villa. "But we're going for more, we plan to rehabilitate Avenida Las Torres, which passes Infonavit CTM, Los Sauces, Aralias, Palo Seco until it reaches the Libramiento, which is another important axis and thus we will have five avenues to distribute traffic," he emphasized.
Arturo Dávalos added that work has been done on Avenida Federación and other roads in the area of Ramblases, Primavera and Ojo de Agua, where the Playa Grande and Puerto Acapulco street restoration project was recently inaugurated, linking the Bugambilias and Ramblases neighborhoods. This will expedite the transit of the upper part of that zone towards Palo Seco or the Libramiento.
A few months ago, the first stage of Avenida Paseo de las Flores was inaugurated, where almost 10 million pesos were invested. The mayor said that in the second stage all of the extensions leading up to the Convention Center will be covered in hydraulic concrete, to give the roads greater durability. In addition, construction of the third stage of this road is already underway, and it will soon cross Mexico Avenue and stretch all the way to the Vista Vallarta golf courses.
The mayor explained that when construction of the new Guadalajara shortcut highway is completed, vehicles entering the municipality from Avenida Federación in Ixtapa will have different options for connections to the downtown area. Drivers can choose to continue along the same road or they can take Los Poetas until connecting to Avenida Mexico.
