NuRAN Wireless to Bring Rural Connectivity to Jalisco

go to original
May 19, 2017

Quebec Canada's NuRAN Wireless Inc. has been selected for a project that will bring mobile connectivity and mobile Internet to eleven rural communities in the northern part of the State of Jalisco, Mexico.

Quebec - NuRAN Wireless Inc. is pleased to announce it was selected by Grupo HEMAC for a rural connectivity project initiated by the Government of the State of Jalisco, Mexico.

NuRAN received a first purchase order for the LiteRAN 2G, its complete rural GSM Network solution from Grupo HEMAC, a system integrator hired by the Government of Jalisco, Mexico to bring mobile connectivity and mobile Internet to 11 rural communities located in the northern part of Jalisco state.

These villages, with populations ranging from approximately 45 to 1000 people, have no access to the power grid, mobile connectivity and mobile Internet. The communities, through a public enquiry performed by the Government of Mexico, requested access to communications services. This request was accepted by the Government who agreed to finance the purchase and the deployment of the telecommunication equipment and is now looking to establish a partnership with an operator that will manage these new infrastructures and provide the mobile services to the communities.

"This project in Jalisco, Mexico is perfectly aligned with NuRAN's mission to connect everyone, everywhere. We strongly believe that communication services should be available to all communities no matter their size as it fulfills a basic need and allows for social and economic development. The financial barrier for building telecom infrastructures is now a matter of the past as our disruptive LiteRAN 2G technology makes even small sites profitable for the operator willing to extend its footprint." stated Francis Letourneau, VP Sales & Marketing of NuRAN Wireless.

A second phase of this project could follow with 20 other communities and 6500 people in Jalisco looking forward to being empowered with mobile access. The opportunity for connectivity in Mexico is tremendous as 54 million adults in the country were still unconnected to mobile services in 2015 based on GSMA's Intelligence. This lack of communication poses serious challenges to the population on everything from education to getting assistance in case of medical or crime-related emergencies, which makes connecting the unconnected a high priority for the Government of Jalisco.
