Local Taxi Drivers Continue Fight Against Uber

Local taxi drivers are up in arms after Uber began operating in Puerto Vallarta at 8:00 am on Tuesday, June 27 - despite the fact that on Monday Jalisco Governor Aristotle Sandoval issued a statement saying that the car-for-hire service would not be allowed to operate in Vallarta-Nayarit. When the news of Uber's arrival broke, taxi Puerto Vallarta drivers set up blockades at 4 points in the city, on the grounds that the Uber company is not authorized to provide ride-hailing service under current legislation in the States of Jalisco and Nayarit. "We've been taking measures to prevent their circulation and to frustrate passenger loading since this morning. These actions are being carried out by taxi drivers in Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, and they will continue to be implemented in a permanent way, stressed the leader of Cetemista (Confederation of Mexican Workers) in Jalisco, Rafael Yerena Zambrano. However, on Wednesday, local taxi union leaders told the drivers to "Stand Down" in anticipation of a meeting to be held today (June 30, 2017) between the taxi drivers' unions, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, the Jalisco State Secretary of Transportation and other government officials from both States. The taxistas are hoping the authorities will intervene and proceed with the necessary actions for the immediate withdrawal of the Uber units from the Banderas Bay area. If today's meeting is deemed unsatisfactory, the taxi drivers will not "stand idly by," they are fully prepared to block routes into the city between the Ameca River in the north, and Mismaloya in the south, stressed Yerena Zambrano.

'Bachelor in Paradise' Implements 2-Drink Maximum Per Hour Rule

Bachelor in Paradise season four has resumed filming in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but with not without a few changes. There is now a two-drink maximum per hour rule for contestants, TMZ reports. Both the crew and bartenders are also reportedly monitoring drinking levels among the cast, and food will be available at all times to keep the cast from getting too drunk. Warner Bros. - the production company behind Bachelor in Paradise - promised there would be changes after a hook up in the pool between contestants Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson led to a shutdown in production. Production resumed after an internal investigation concluded no misconduct occurred. ABC has confirmed that BIP will air this summer, as originally planned.
