Puerto Vallarta Gives Vote of Confidence to Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña

With a 'yes' to the ratification of his government, the people of Puerto Vallarta acknowledged the work of Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña during the Citizen Consultation held last Sunday, where they freely and transparently endorsed his administration. After completing the review of the mandate ratification, the Citizen Committee on Tuesday presented Puerto Vallarta Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña with the results of the democratic exercise in which more than 25,000 citizens participated. The mayor's performance during the first two years of his administration was overwhelmingly approved, with 24,002 favorable votes (95%), 1,103 'Nay' votes, and 162 nulls, for a total of 25,276 ballots, according to the committee. Comité Ciudadano president, Guadalupe Benítez López, confirmed the poll's results, which were unanimously endorsed by committee members. In that context, accompanied by members of the general public, and with city councilors, municipal officials and representatives of the media acting as witnesses of honor, the Mayor was presented with a document which recognizes that citizens of the municipality of Puerto Vallarta "ratify Lic. Arturo Dávalos Peña in his position as municipal president." Mayor Dávalos said he was very happy with the results obtained by the poll, the transparency of this democratic process and the community's participation, saying that giving power back to the people was the main objective of this exercise. He thanked the more than 25,000 Vallartenses who participated, of which more than 24,000 approved his government and confirmed their trust in him. He indicated that the more than 1,000 people who said 'No' or invalidated their votes give him reason to redouble his efforts and to continue working to make Puerto Vallarta a better city, in addition to living up to the trust that the people have bestowed on his government.

Summer Tourism in the Riviera Nayarit Exceeds Expectations

The Riviera Nayarit registered an excellent summer season, ending August with 86.17% hotel occupancy and over 300 thousand visitors, which surpasses last year's number of 276,284 tourists. The income generated by this difference was in excess of $3 billion pesos. Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), commented the office's expectations were met during the 34 days of summer vacation, and mentioned that over 65% of the visitors were nationals. "The constant travel agent workshops; the promotions, public relations and marketing strategies; plus the meetings and events we host continue showing results with an increase in the number of visitors and high occupancy levels, which is why we're expecting an even better winter," he added. Southwest Announces Weekend Nonstop Flights to Puerto Vallarta

Southwest Airlines will begin new year-round nonstop flights between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta next Spring, the carrier announced Monday. The airline said the new Saturday and Sunday service to and from the Mexican resort destination will start March 10, 2018. The announcement comes just months after the airline debuted nonstop flights to Cabo San Lucas. "The international service we are providing has really resonated with our customers. Cabo was the most often requested destination by our customers, and Puerto Vallarta was next," said Leah Koontz, Vice President Controller for Southwest. The new flights are part of a major expansion of Southwest's California routes, with new flights announced for San Jose, Sacramento and San Francisco. Alaska Airlines is the only other airline operating nonstop flights to Puerto Vallarta from San Diego.
